![]() I lower the opacity and make a new layer for my second pass. At this stage I’m scratching it out quick and just trying to get everything roughly in place I’m not very mechanically precise so my process is pretty messy and involves several layers of increasingly tight sketches. Roughly marking out the locations/sizes of some features. The brow line is generally closer to the center of the circle than the eyeline. Since I skipped marking out guidelines in my own process just some basic notes of what I keep in mind: the bottom of the nose coincides with the bottom of the circle marking the cranium. This diamond shape is something I picked up from another artist on Tumblr, (who is Art Goals) did a post about it a while back iirc I’ve added a similar diamond shape on my drawing and marked out the bottom of the nose and seam of the mouth. Having those lines on my ref image makes it easier for me to parse what I’m looking at and copy the same general spatial relationships between features in my drawing. You’ll notice I’ve drawn the circle and centerline over my reference first, as well as a kind of diamond shape. So for myself I’ve just started with a circle and the vertical centerline. If you’re a beginner I do recommend studying up on proportions and maybe trying the Reilly Method! Since in this case I’ve been asked what my process is I just drew as I tend to draw which means I’ve eschewed a lot of the detailed guidelines like what you’ll find in the Reilly Method because I’m relatively accustomed to facial proportions. I’m sticking close on this one because I did it mainly for an example. Sometimes, subverting the expectations of an audience by using an unusual camera angle can bring a sequence to life.I often have a reference! Sometimes I stick very closely to my reference, other times it’s a guide for basic facial structure or even just the lighting alone. As always, there’s exceptions to every rules. They can be very powerful, but use them wisely. A mistake junior story artists often make is to overdo the dynamic shots. It often brings clarity and a sense of calm to a scene, a moment for the audience to understand where things are, often used in establishing shots. But there’s also a place for what some may refer to as flat staging. Maybe right in the middle of an action sequence. There’s a time and a place for dynamic camera angles. But every camera choice you make influences how the story unfolds. ![]() Norm #100TuesdayTipsBook #100TuesdayTips #TuesdayTips #grizandnorm #GestureDrawing #drawingtutorials #drawingtipsġ00tuesdaytips gesturedrawing tuesdaytips 100tuesdaytipsbook drawingtips grizandnorm drawingtutorialsĪ huge component of storyboarding is to use the camera position and angle to tell the story you want to tell (or that you’re paid to tell…). This is a personal approach but I’m to hear if anyone else’s brain works that way too. Tell me if that helps you see Gesture in a different way. Just create a new layer on top and use the loose wire drawing as the gesture to draw on top of. That’s the one area where digital comes very handy. There’s always room to go back and fix things. For me, it’s the best way to not get caught up in the details. This way, I get a fluid movement through the body that pushes through to the feet, and all the way to the fingers. So, as best as I can describe it, I use the line like a wire in space. But, I try to draw the figure in a three-dimensional space. I can then go back and fix things or bring more clarity by drawing over it. this way, I get an organic feeling to the drawing without trying too hard. This way, I get across an idea or feeling very fast without thinking it through to much. So I sometimes draw with an almost continuous line. Overthinking often leads to stiff posing. Starting and finishing a featureįollowing GitFlow, to start work on a feature, bug fix or other work item, you create a feature branch. For example, you might have a convention of adding the application's initials.Ĭonfiguring the repository for 'full' GitFlow as shown above creates master and develop branches if they don't exist, and adds the following lines repository's git.config file:īecause the git.config file is a Git management file which isn't usually included in the repository itself, GitFlow installation is on a per machine basis – each member of the team will have to configure their local repository to use GitFlow, if they want to do so. In the version tags field, you can any any text that you want to be prefixed to the version tags for releases. I pick the simple version if I'm just dipping into a project to help out with a feature, the full version otherwise. If the repository hasn't been configured to use GitFlow, this will be the only available option at this stage.Īt this point you can choose whether to have a 'light' version of GitFlow, which just has a master branch, develop branch and feature branches, or a full version with hotfixes and releases as well. If a repository isn't already configured to use GitFlow, first off, you can configure it using SmartGit > GitFlow > Configure. The SmartGit client also has some useful tools for following the GitFlow workflow, which I'll walk through in this blog. You can install GitFlow on your machine and use it with command line tools for Git. The upshot of using GitFlow from a developer point of view is that almost all of your development happens on feature branches (or hotfix branches if something urgent crops up). ![]() There's a more detailed description of the branch structure and work flow in part 2 of Howard's GitFlow with Team City series. Master is reserved for the latest released version of the codebase, with the release branches acting as gatekeeper between develop and master. The workflow between branches is shown in the visualisation below, where circles represent commits, and arrows merges.Įvery change made to the code base during development cycles (unless it's on a feature branch for a work item you decide isn't needed) ends up in develop. Hotfix/ - branches for dealing with urgent fixes, which get merged into master (and develop) and then a new release branch when complete.Feature/ - each feature branch corresponds to work on a particular area (e.g.Develop - a permanent branch containing the work-in-progress version of the site, with feature branches being created from this branch and merged back into it.Master - a permanent branch acting as a definitive record of the latest released version of the application.Release/ - each release branch corresponds to a released version of the application. The purpose of a branch and its position in the workflow, from development to release, is indicated by its name: GitFlow specifies a standard branch structure and workflow for moving changes between branches, which standardise the way a team uses Git, and keep the repository clean and structured, with important branches protected from ad hoc changes. This blog explains how you can use the Git client SmartGit to follow the GitFlow model, which Howard described in his series a step by Step Guide to using GitFlow with TeamCity. By Alice Waddicor Software Engineering Apprentice III 29th January 2015 ![]() Because polar bears occupy remote and environmentally extreme habitats, population monitoring for conservation and management is challenging, costly, and becoming more difficult with rapidly changing environmental conditions. Given the obligations of the ESA, international management agreements, and the need to ensure that subsistence harvest is sustainable, polar bear populations need to be monitored and managed. The US shares two polar bear subpopulations (Chukchi Sea (CS) and Southern Beaufort Sea (SBS)) with Russia and Canada respectively ( Figure 1), and Indigenous people legally hunt polar bears for subsistence from both subpopulations. As sea ice continues to decline, polar bears are expected to spend more time on land ( Rode et al., 2022), thereby increasing the potential for human/bear conflicts and negative impacts on cub survival due to human disturbance ( Woodruff et al., 2022). The loss of sea ice due to climate change in the Arctic ( Rantanen et al., 2022) led to the listing of polar bears as “threatened” under the US Endangered Species Act (ESA) ( US Fish and Wildlife Service, 2008). The polar bear ( Ursus maritimus) is an iconic Arctic predator that relies upon sea ice as a platform on which to hunt, travel, and reproduce ( Wiig et al., 2015). It also can involve, engage, and empower Indigenous communities in the Arctic, which are greatly affected by polar bear management decisions. This method is non-invasive, could be integrated into genetic mark-recapture sampling designs, and addresses some of the current challenges arising from poor sea ice conditions. To our knowledge, this is the first time that polar bears have been individually identified by genotype and sex using e-DNA collected from snow. ![]() Six of the 13 bear trails sampled (46%) yielded consensus genotypes for five unique males and one female. Identification of individuals was accomplished by amplifying a multiplex of seven n-DNA microsatellite loci, and sex was determined by the amelogenin gene sex ID marker. Species verification was based on a mt-DNA PCR fragment analysis test. Snow was sampled from 13 polar bear trails (10 paw-prints per trail) on the sea ice in the Chukchi and Beaufort seas along the North Slope of Alaska. The goal of this investigation was to assess the viability of using e-DNA collected from paw-prints in the snow to identify individual polar bears and their sex. Mitochondrial DNA ( mt-DNA) is used to assess whether polar bear DNA is present within a snow sample, and nuclear DNA ( n-DNA) can identify individuals and their sex. However, epidermal cells shed from the foot pads of a polar bear into its paw-prints in snow are a source of “environmental DNA” ( e-DNA) that can be collected non-invasively on the sea ice or on land for potential use in population monitoring. One common method utilizes biopsy darts delivered from a helicopter to collect DNA, a method that faces similar ice associated challenges to those described above. ![]() Monitoring polar bears via DNA sampling is a promising option. These methods largely rely upon the capture and handling of polar bears, and have been criticized over animal welfare concerns. Population monitoring is vital to polar bear conservation but recently, poor sea ice has made traditional aircraft-based methods less viable. Declining sea ice extent and duration has led polar bears to be designated as “threatened” (ESA). Polar bears rely upon sea ice to hunt, travel, and reproduce.
